Infidelity

Well its been almost two months since I last wrote but thathttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif's not for a lack of trying but rather due to a lack of smoking or drinking, until recently that is. I recently have had the pleasure of trying some fairly top shelf liquors. The Macallan Single Malt 12 year was probably my favorite of them all. A extremely nice scotch that's beautifully smooth with a delicious flavor to it. The next one is a tequila, Gran Centenario Plata Tequila. This one actually has a smell that any supposed "I can never smell tequila again because it makes me sick" person will still enjoy it. The next is a rum, probably one of my favorite liquors, Zacapa. Its a really nice rum that is easy to enjoy on ice with NO COKE at all.
My final drink I'd like to go over is a really nice wine that my wine guru told me to buy. It is called Menage A Trois. It is a california red table wine that I enjoyed with some french bread, smoked gouda, cheddar cheese, pepperoni, and my importantly with my girlfriend. It had a nice bouquet with a full bodied flavor and really nice finish. It was a wine we both enjoyed very much and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a nice table red. I apologize for how short this entry is but I don't have much time. So until next time.

Good food, good wine, good friends, and good times.

Oldies but goodies.

In my hiatus I have done alot. Had alot of good wine, great beer, and AMAZING cigars.

Wine - Some of my friends did a tasting of Virginia wines. They were okay, nothing really stood out as great. There was a pretty good cab that I can't remember the name too. I had a GREAT Pino Noir the other day. Medium bodied with a very full mouth presence. Its hard to explain but it was as if I could almost chew on the wine with all the "flavor" it had. Other than that, not much. I really need to have more wine.

Beer - One word, OKTOBERFEST!!!!!! Cap. Ale had some great beers during oktoberfest. Paulaner Lager is a smooth crisp lager that puts anything that coors, bud, millers pisses out to shame. It's an anytime beer, kind of like Carlsburg Pilsner. Had some other Oktoberfest beers which was pretty good. Other than that, I've had my regular Spaten Oktoberfest and Samuel Adams Oktoberfest, both regulars in my opinion. I'm sad the beer holiday is over but now the winter ones and some pumpkin ales are in season. Dogfish head, a GOD of beers, makes a great pumpkin ale called Punkin. It has very slight pumpkin/nutmeg/cinnamon flavor to it without sacrificing any of the ale flavor. Then on the other end of the spectrum we have a GLORIOUS pumpkin ale known as Southern Tier Pumking. Now this is a real treat. It tastes exactly like a pumpkin pie, the smoothness of the pumpkin, sweetness of brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. With the first sip, the flavor reminded me of a full stomach, football on the TV, and beautiful heaping slice of delicious pumpkin pie. This beer is something special and I highly recommend that you go find it, try it, agree about how good it is, and by everything single bottle you can find, that's what I am going to do. I still enjoy the occasional treat of Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, which if you have not tried go do it now. My friend who home-brews made a ridiculously good scotch ale. It was sweet with a full bodied flavor to it with a great smoothness to it. He has another batch in the works and I cannot wait for that. That's about it for beers, looking forward to the winter lagers, especially Samuel Adams Winter Lager.

Cigars - Now let the insanity ensue! Let me start with my TOP TOP TOP two cigars from the past month, probably for the rest of my life. I had a 1492, now for those of you that know, this was a real treat. This is an extremely limited production cigar. About $500 a piece, yes one cigar, not a box. That was real trip, the one flavor that stood out to me was black tea flavor and from what I hear and what I have smoked, there is nothing like it out there. I've also had 70's Monte Dunhill. That was a great cigar, a yeasty bread flavor to it that like with the previous pino, felt like you could really chew on. Had the pleasure of having a Vegueros, not sure about the vitola. Even though some people don't like it, I really enjoyed it. It had a great hay/grassy flavor to it. Also tried a 1995 Punch Margarita that I really enjoyed. Nice full bodied cigar come from such a little guy. Other than that, nothing special, had some La GLoria Cubana Medaille D'or No.4, Los Statos, and some other ones that I can't remember.

Hookah - Had two new flavor just the other day. Tried mint which has a minty coolness to it when you take it in with a very minty finish to it. That was really nice. Also tried rose which was pretty good. It reminded me of potpourri at first but that quickly went away replaced with a pleasant floral sweetness to it. The rose was good but I don't know that I'd buy it again. I really liked the mint and will probably be looking to buy some of my own. I am actually out of my Al Fakheer Double Apple and need to look for a replacement, probably something from the Starbuzz line. If you have any suggestions let me know.

So that is a my last month or so of stuff that brings about my death that much quicker. I promise to stay up to date in the future. I think my next cigar is going to be an Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur 1066-Dark Knight. Also got some more beers and wines to come soon.

So until then nothing beats good drinks, good smokes, and good company. So enjoy life a little a try a little of each.

I'm back.

You mean Jimmy Hendrix?

As some of my friends may know (probably not that many people now that I think about) I really like my Gin and Tonics. At first I really enjoyed the sweetness of the tonic and liked my gin and tonics with a little more tonic that was probably right. But as I drank more, I started to really enjoy the unique flavor of the gin. The sharpness of the alcohol was replaced with flavor that was like no other liquor. The first taste that came to me was a taste of cucumber and an array of herbs. By no means do I claim to be a connosisour of gin but I do like it. My normal staples of gin consisted of either Tanqueray or Bombay. A good friend of mine recommended that I try a gin called Hendricks. Its a quiet yet retro looking bottle with a simple name and a simple looking design. I read a little blurb that Wine Enthusiast that called Hendricks the most "flavorful" gin. They were right, even with the tonic I could clearly taste some of the gin flavors. Making this one a simple reviews. Hendricks is a good good good good gin, go drink some.

That doesn't sound right

Well the other day I tried something that was SURPRISINGLY good. My friend recommended that I try a Guinness with vanilla ice cream, kind of like a coke float but with Guinness instead of coke. I was skeptical at first but was surprised that it actually works. If you think about it, it should work. Guinness if often described as having chocolate or coffee/mocha flavors to it. Both those tastes go hand in hand with vanilla ice cream. So I poured the Guinness and scooped in to hefty servings of breyers vanilla ice cream, the best ice cream in my opinion. I took a sip of the Guinness and instead of the typical chocolate and coffee flavors, which were still present, there we a very dominant creamy vanilla flavor that melded well with the other flavors of the beer. It reminded me of a very dark espresso with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. There was a little alcohol bite to it that reminded me it was a alcoholic drink which I appreciated. All in all, a great new drink for me and I think I will have to put it into my regular rotation of alcoholic drinks and sweet desserts.

Been awhile.

Sorry to those that read my blog. I have smoked a good deal since I started this but haven't bothered keeping up. I've also drank alot since then as well. Major purchases since then include A 50 bundle of Los Statos, a box of Monte 2s '07, a box of La Gloria Cubana Medaille D'Or No.4 '02, and a fairly old sampler from a guy on the forums. Well I will try to keep you updated more often. Sorry for the delay and until then stay classy my fellow readers.

A. Fuente Short Story, Sam Adams White Ale, and JLP Cremas

The other day my friend and I were able to check out a local bar, J. Gilberts, that lets you smoke cigars at the bar. Upon sitting at the bar, I immediately ordered a Sam Adams Seasonal White Ale. A BEAUTIFUL drink if I must say. A very crisp tasting beer, not too heavy, but had some great citrus flavors to it. Along with it, I lit my first cigar, an A. Fuente Shorty Story. This was a little guy that I've heard a lot about. I didn't cut the foot and just lit the end as it was. The cigar was a really nice short smoke. Produced lots of smoke, had a good burn with no major wrapper problems. The flavor was really nice and was complemented very well by the White Ale. It is a good cigar but the price at most B&Ms would keep me from buying again. If anything I'd look to buy a box but because of limited supply, the prices are way jacked up even for a box. If you can get your hand on one for a good price I'd say go for it. Next I lit a JLP crema and ordered a Guinness with it. I've had a JLP last year from a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. This was no exception. Had the beautiful smoothness that can only come with a CC. Even for a "budget" cigar, its a great cigar and will keep me coming back for its flavor and price. The pre-light draw was a little tight but loosend up as I smoked on. There were no burn issues and kept up a great flavor all the way until the end. Overall it was a great day and as the weather warms up hopeuflly there will be more to come. Until next time.

Direction

My "vision" for this blog is not for me to rant or vent but rather for me to use it as a journal for the things I enjoy. These would include such things as beer, wine, cigars or anything else that I might fancy. I'll have reviews or little blurbs and supply pictures when available. By no means do I consider myself an expert but I do know what I like and will do my best to convey my experiences to you, the reader. If you might happen to stumble across this blog, I hope you enjoy it and find some use out of it. Enjoy the blog and until next time.
